Lifecycle Hanneke Kres
Hanneke Kres was born in Apeldoorn, last part of her life she lived in Enschede where she died at age 76 (1947-2023). In the intervening period Hanneke has lived in Zeeland for a long time. She has followed several courses, such as a manual labor course in Switzerland, the Free Academy in Den Haag and the AKI in Enschede. She has worked as an au pair and studied languages in several countries. Hanneke completed several internships with screen printers. In Goes she taught screen printing for several years at the local youth center Het Beest. Hanneke Kres has held several exhibitions in Apeldoorn, Middelburg, Heinkenszand, Nisse, Goes, Rotterdam, Zwolle and enschede. In her work she is inspired by nature, music and dance. But especially by her own life. In her drawings and paintings she particularly wants to express the emotion of this. She believes that in today's "computer world" emotion is hard to find. Hanneke's work can therefore best be described as "emotional art" (post-impressionist). In her Zeeland period, Hanneke tried to capture the whimsical nature in her usually abstract pastel and chalk drawings. Important and essential to the work from these periods is the color scheme in her work in which the colors pink, green and purple predominate. The colors are important because they accentuate the depicted abstractions. Not only are these abstractions, but from her emotions she also draws animals from her close surroundings such as sheep, cows and pheasants that come to life against a background of pastel colors, accentuating the vulnerability of these animals. Kres' sketch designs are ideally suited to be applied to textile designs. Not surprisingly, since her interest in the textile industry was the main motivation for coming to Twente. Clothes design runs like a thread through Hanneke's life, where she frequently applies screen printing and batik techniques to her designs.
